Allard is proud to provide technical writing services for a new client based in Red Deer, Alberta. Tornado Hydrovacs is one of the premier manufacturers of hydrovac trucks in North America. Tornado has entered into an agreement to manufacture custom designed trucks for Ditch Witch, located in Perry, OK. The operator’s manual includes scheduled maintenance procedures for the numerous OEM components on the truck. The operating procedures include extensive use of a digital control panel and a remote control.
The manual is developed in Adobe Framemaker. Illustrations are being created from the manufacturer’s 3D model and additional work done in Adobe Illustrator.
We are in the final stages of writing a new operator’s manual for the trucks, which incorporate several different technlogies in Tornado’s innovative design. The operator’s manual provides full instructions for performing vacuum excavation using pressurized water to create a dirt slurry. The Tornado truck then uses a high velocity vacuum to remove the slurry from the excavation site, transporting it to a large debris tank. Crews commonly use this technique to uncover existing utility lines and pipe systems with minimal risk of breaks or tears.
This is just one of several “truck” projects Allard has been involved with over the past few years. We have provided technical writing services for maintenance manuals, operator’s manuals, and repair manuals for a refueling truck, an off-highway yard truck, and are in preliminary discussions with an axle manufacturer for an operator’s manual for their product.
